How the App Works

How are sowing dates calculated?

The app automatically detects your location and calculates sowing dates based on your local climate, frost dates and growing season. UK gardeners get dates tailored to their specific area, while USA gardeners get dates based on their USDA hardiness zone (3–10).

How does the Grow Calendar work?

The Grow Calendar shows you exactly what to sow each month — indoors and outdoors — based on your location. It covers 84 fruit and vegetables and shows growing times so you can plan your harvest in advance. Browse by month or search for a specific crop.

How are recipes matched to my garden?

The Cook section shows recipes organised by what’s in season right now. You can browse by vegetable to find recipes for whatever you’ve just harvested, or explore collections like Harvest Overload (for a glut of one veg), Hero Ingredient, Rainbow Plate, and Around the World.

What is the Harvest Forecast?

The Harvest Forecast shows you what crops are coming up for harvest in the weeks ahead, so you can plan your meals and shopping around what your garden is about to produce.

How do Frost Date Alerts work?

The app calculates your first and last frost dates based on your location. You’ll receive alerts when frost is forecast so you can take action to protect your plants — bring them in, cover them or harvest early.

What is the Companion Planting guide?

Each of the 84 vegetables in the app includes a companion planting guide showing which plants grow well nearby and which to keep apart. This helps you plan your beds for maximum yield and natural pest control.

How does the Freezer Tracker work?

The Freezer Tracker lets you log what you’ve frozen from your harvest, along with the date frozen and best-before information. It helps you keep track of your frozen produce so nothing goes to waste.

What does the Garden Journal do?

The Journal lets you document your growing journey with photos, notes and dates. The Garden Timeline shows your entire growing history season by season so you can look back and see how far you’ve come.

What is the Budget Tracker?

The Budget Tracker (called Expense Tracker in the app) lets you log your garden spending — seeds, compost, tools and more — and compares it against the value of your harvest so you can see the true value of growing your own food.
